hello!
just wondering if there is anything i can do to get what i want, ive read other posts but cant find one that is exactly what i need
i just bought a new Packard Bell desktop (link bellow) and when i first looked at the back there was a little cover over the VGA port that said "dont remove" on it, there is also a little cover over the HDMI port that is next to it.
i also bought a new monitor that only has 1 hdmi port and 1 vga port.
what i wanted to be able to do was plug the computer into the monitor via the VGA and then my xbox in via the HDMI
as there are two HDMI ports on the computer i used the other one and it works fine, however i still want to use either the VGA port or if its possible use the DVI-D port and plug that into the VGA,
basically is there a way of doing this? i want to have the computer in HD aswell as my xbox

Thanks a lot, im not very good with the lingo so keep it as dumbed down as possible!! thanks in advance!
sam

Your PC has a graphics card, which is why the VGA port on the motherboard was covered up.

You need to plug your monitor into the graphics card. There will be some display ports (VGA, DVI, HDMI maybe) at the bottom of your PC. This is where your graphics card is. Now, since your PC has a GT 620 which is a newer card, it may not have a VGA port. It'll likely have DVI though. You'll need to get yourself a VGA to DVI adapter if this is the case and then plug your monitor into the DVI port on your graphics card. If the graphics card has VGA, just plug the monitor straight into the VGA port on the card.

If you have a graphics card installed, like you do, then the onboard video will usually be disabled which will be why you didn't get a display.

So now you have your monitor plugged via VGA into your PC, you can plug the Xbox into your monitor using HDMI. That's easy enough. There should be buttons on the monitor itself which will allow you to switch between inputs - ie, switch between VGA and HDMI.

I hope this clears things up a bit?
