vid card/fan problem

Just got a x700 pro. I have a new computer which is up to spec. It runs on a 128 mb x300 now. When i install the x700 the fan runs super fast when i boot up the computer. I put the old card back in and the fan runs fine. Anyone have any ideas?
 
IT is because the x700 generates more heat then the x300. This causes a higher case temps, and to keep your CPU cooler, more air has to be pushed threw the fins of the Heatsink. It does this by increasing the rpm of the cpu fan.

If it only does it at boot up and then spins down, then there is nothing to worry about, on the other hand if it is continually spinning at full whack even once the drivers have loaded then they may be a problem with the card fan its self.

With my card 7800GT I have to wait a few minutes after windows has loaded for the fan to spin down, if this is not the case then like I said it may be the fan on the card it self.

He is talking about the CPU fan.
 
well im almost positive its not the card fan. I can see the cpu fan full blast at bootup. I havent waited more than 15 seconds because it sounds like my computer is going to take off or something. I am very lost maybe i try reinstalling the drivers and the card. Do you think this will help?
 
Here, try taking a house fan and take the side panel off. Have the house fan blow into your computer. If the CPU fan still goes at full speed, then its something other then heat causing it to speed up.
 
are you sure its not the video card fan? I have an x700 pro and the fan on it takes off when I turn my computer on. I also used to have an x300, and it was quiet on startup because it didnt have a fan. let it start up all the way and it should quiet right down. or just as a test to see if it's the video card, put something on the fan (your finger would even work) so the fan on the video card doesn't spin, then start up your computer. That way if it's the CPU fan it should still make the noise.
 
Not sure of the temperature. It is definetly not turning on because of heat. Is it possible that I might need a bigger cpu fan to run the bigger vid card? The fan starts and gains velocity like a jet engine was just turned on. Thats the best I can explain it. It is definetly the cpu fan too.
