Video cable?

As stated in my PREVIOUS THREAD, the LCD on this laptop is not working properly.

External monitor works fine.

I'm getting just a white screen. After a lot of fumbling around here online, and inside the laptop, I'm thinking that it's the video cable, but could use some advice.

Here's my reasoning: the screen lights up just fine, leaving me to assume the backlight is working, leaving me to assume the inverter is working. Am I right here? the inverter is what regulates the backlight, right?

So, the problem (seems to be) is that I'm not getting a signal from the actaul computer to the LCD. Well, that's what the video cable is for, right??

I took it apart to check connections, and made sure everything was connected tightly, put it back together, and I'm still getting a lit white screen.

Think all I need is a new video cable??

any and all suggestions welcome

you are right about the backlight and the inverter. a new cable is the cheapest and easiest thing to try first, but it could be your graphics chip, the LCD itself, or some kind of interference. if it were me, i would try replacing the videa cable first

if i remember correctly, you have an HP. check the HP replacement parts site. if they dont sell it separately, i would turn to ebay.

If you're getting all white, then you probably have something wrong with the LCD or maybe even the GPU. Doubtful, but something could be wrong with that one output.

Yes, the inverter should be fine. However, you'll probably basically need a whole new LCD. It would probably be easist to find a whole screen(plastic, backlight, etc etc) on ebay. I doubt you'll find just the cables as they are sometimes soldered to the boards.

actually, youd be surprised what you can find on ebay. thats where people part out computers, especially old laptopsand i bet you can find a screen assembly pretty easily. the problem is finding one that works properly for a reasonable price:(

That's what I said... I was just saying he couldn't find just the cable because it's normally soldered to the LCD

im pretty sure most video cables are not soldered to the LCD. are you sure you are not thinking of the backlight power cables (the pink and white ones) bc those are soldered to the backlight which is fixed in the LCD bezel

oops, sry, thats what i get for not reading the whole post;)

Thanks guys. It's the LCD itself, and I've got someone coming out to replace it tomorrow all for $100.

Not bad at all...
