video card advice?

I don't really use my computer for too much gaming or video editing, but I don't want a card that will limit me from doing either for those things ever.

Right now I have a GeForce4 MX420.

Does the video card have much effect on my computer's performance? And how much?

yea

not even. I'd say a FX 5500 256mb. Thats what i've got, and I'm not restricted at all from gaming, video editing, or any other program i run.

Uh... ever is a very long time...

Try playing in DX9 mode :D The 5200 coure you're running will show its pain (5500 is essentially an upclocked 5200)

To answer the question, what exactly do you mean when you want a card that wont ever restrict you from playing games?

I think he means one that will be alright for gaming if he ever ends up doing it. Like if he suddently gets addicted to HL2, then he won't have go out and blow $350 on a new GPU.

I figured as much, just wanted to verify ... problem is ... you cant just pick up say a 5200, 5500 and play HL2 as it will bottleneck the crap out of you....

What you talking about I can play doom 3 on 1600X1200 ultra and get 250fps with my 5200 :P
