Video Card Causing PC to Freeze Constantly!

I just replaced my video card because mine was dead and this new (used) one is making my PC freeze constantly. I know it's the video card causing it because this has Never happened in the 2 years that i've had this desktop PC and i just did a fresh/clean install of Windows 7 (it froze before I even upgraded).

I downloaded the latest driver for it but it hasn't helped at all.. I opened up my PC and felt the card and it was Very hot, so i'm wondering if it could possibly be over-heating? It is a much bigger card than what came with my PC and my cases is a tight fit, my room is around 68-70 degrees...

How can I stop the freezing without buying another video card?

What power supply does your computer have and what video card did you put in there?

Sounds like it could be a power issue. Each video card has a certain need for an ammount of power.

I didn't even really pay attention to it to be honest, because my PC wouldn't boot so I was troubleshooting and discovered my video card was crap, and my co-worker told me had had an extra pci-e x16 video card lying around that I could try it out..

I just looked at it, the card is an XFX GeForce 6800 XT PCI-E X16, 256MB...

My power supply is 300W, the specs for the card on newegg require 450W+ power! Guess that's definitely a problem eh? :D

yeah lol 300 w will definately not power that I would invest in a new power supply itll be worth it in the future definately go atleast 500w

Yeah i've been shopping around, the problem i'm seeing is that most higher Wattage supplies have a ton more cords/connections than I need. My co-worker also had an extra power supply that I tried in my PC before I put in the video card and all the extra cords barely fit inside the case..

Is there a way I can find a good 500-600W power supply that has limited connections on it? I'm surprised they come with so many and i'm just running standard componenets and having a power supply with 20 extra connections is pointless..

Corsairs HX range of PSUs have modular cables, which means you can remove the ones you aren't using, so look for something like this:

Corsair HX650

I think 650W is the lowest they go

Well it looks like it was not the video card, I just got in my new 550W power supply, put it in with the new video card and it's still constantly freezing. As soon as it booted up, it froze. I re-boot, it works for a few minutes then freezes again and doesn't stop.

WTF is going on with this thing?

Bad memory? Bad hard drive?
