Video Card Driver Install

I know this is a really dumb question, but I want to remove all my video drivers and then reinstall them. The problem is, when I uninstall them and boot up to install the newest ATI drivers, windows automatically installs whatever ones it has for my 4870. They're pretty old. I can install the newest ATI ones after it boots up, but it is encountering some errors probably because I didn't remove the first ones. TL;DR, How do I keep windows from automatically installing video drivers when I boot?

I uninstall the ati drivers. Then you have to restart. When I restart it reinstalls the outdated ones that come with windows.

Then boot to safe mode and try it. You should be able to just download the latest drivers and replace the microsoft ones with the ones from ATI.
