Video Card for Final Fantasy XI. Ignorant When It Comes To Computers.

Hello everyone. I have a bit of an issue. I know close to nothing when it comes to customizing computers. I know the basics, and a little bit of what is what, but nothing extreme.

Now, I recently found the game Final Fantasy XI, and right when I started playing, I was addicted. Before I start, here are my computer specs so anyone can help me a bit more:

2.60 GHZ
256 MB (need to upgrade to either 512 MB or 1 GB. I have a question about this)
80 GB Hard Drive
Intex Extreme graphics card (Yes, I know, trash. I'm looking to upgrade to any Nvidia GeForce, maybe a 6800, I also have a question about this)

Alright. Here are my two questions...Those specs are clearly not enough to run FFXI on my computer presently. I need to buy some memory and a video card. Here is what I'm looking at.

CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) System Memory - Retail

Now, my PC is a SDRAM 2100, is this a problem that this is 3200, DDR 400?

Here is the graphics card:

eVGA 256-A8-N341-LX Geforce 6200 256MB 64-bit DDR AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail

I don't think there is a problem with this, I think it will be able to be inserted in my computer fine...I think.

Sorry for the long post, but I really need help. I'm running out to the store real quick, so if anyone has any questions to help me further, please just wait a few minutes. Thanks in advance guys, I appreciate any help at all.

we need more specs on the motherboard. if it can only support the ram you have now(SDRAM 2100) then i dont hink it can support 3200. as for the gfx card. wats your budget? you can get a 6600 for about $100 and its much better than that.

Hmm..sorry if I sound like a moron, but how do I find out what my motherboard is? Is is it what type it is? If so, I have an Intel Pentium 4 Processor. If not, I don't know what it is.

Oh yes, and to Mr. Suave, my budget is around $100 - $120 but I can't go much higher than that for either the graphics card and the RAM. My max for both of them is about $350.

Also, I'm getting all of my products from Newegg.com, just for future refrence. I'm pretty sure that's all I need to run FFXI, a graphics card and a little boost in memory. According to Playonline.com, the official site for FFXI, the specs say that after I get these things, I should be able to run it perfectly.

its the large board inside your case with everything connected to it. It should have a make/model on it, or maybe you have a manual for it somewhere.

Is FFXI an online game or can you play without being online? damn i like final fantasy games.

i dont think you should get 2gigs of ram, it'll be kind of an overkill. And it shouldn't be a problem putting PC3200 ram in PC2100 motherboard. Most ram should work, it usually says on the ram whether if it's compatible w/ PC2100.

Yeah, I wasn't going for the 2 gig, I just needed to make sure a 3200 would run on a 2100. I figured that you needed RAM that matched it exactly, and I spent around and hour looking for RAM that specifically said 2100 on it. So yeah, thank you very much, you saved me a lot of time. I'll either go with 512 MB or 1 gig, or is even 1 gig to much? As for the graphics card, I guess I'm fine since I haven't heard anything on that.

go with the 1 gig, the prices wont differ much anyway.

Alright, thanks a lot everyone. You've been a lot of help. I have one more question, though. Is that graphics card okay? I think I'll go with the 6600, considering I won't be spending as much on RAM as I thought, so would that go okay with my system I have?

Once again, thanks for the help. I'm getting this stuff for my birthday, so it's been a great deal of help to me.

i do believe the 6600 requires a pci-e slot, so you need to know if your motherboard has a slot for it.
