Video card for Oblivion

he could get the 7800GS agp?

Any card 4x or higher 8x/4x AGP card could be used. The newest models would be more of a waste however due to the age of the board itself with the lower fsb and slower memory for overall performance. Increasing memory to something like 2gb on the DDR333 would be a plus there. But a video card faster then what the board supports would forced to backclock. The 9550 was closer to that board's specifications while the X1600 Pro is still new enough for updates some months from now.

Whooops, thought that was an AGP card.

Wow, the AGP Version is a lot. This one would be a better choice then

Don't kid yourself. The ATI line has some very qualified cards. Some have still been seeing good results with the X850 model. The main problem now is finding the right model that will run and game well with the Catalyst 6.7 and now 6.8 versions. After a certain amount of time you have to go with the earlier versions otherwise you are stuck with the basic drivers only.

Not sure whether to buy a new notebook with enough specs for the game instead. Next year is my last year at school so it's not gonna be long before I left home to study. Definitely I'm not taking this decent desktop with me.
Not sure if notebook is suitable for gaming too.

A good gaming notebook would cost considerably more than a gaming desktop. Plus, they are energy hoggers, so don't expect much battery life playing games. Also might be toasty and bulky.
