Video Card for roughly 260$

I need to upgrade my video card and want a DX10 card but I don't want to go up to nearly 300$. 250$ would be about budget because I still have to buy Vista (roughly 70$) and already spent 93$ on RAM, also I think I might need to buy a power supply upgrade (however it is that I upgrade that) as mine is only 300w output, I think 8800 gts is 400w and 8600 gts is 350w?

The thing is I'm not really a gfx whore but I would like to see really nice graphics for a change -Oblivion on max settings- and I'd be playing Oblivion the most, and if I do play DX10 games Oblivion gfx would probably be good enough for me.

I'm not really sure how video cards work and what makes them put out good graphics.

Max Resolution - 1280 x 1024
also I won't be buying vista until there's a DX10 game I want to play because I like XP and a lot of stuff isn't Vista compatible yet.

basically I have like 3 options:

1) 8800 gts (290$+)
2) 8600 gt (150$?) or gts (180$+)
3) wait for other cards to come out

the thing is my brother recently bought a 7600 gt and told me that he could play Oblivon max settings so I thought about getting that but then decided I might as well upgrade to a DX10 card but the 8600 gt doesn't out perform the 7600 gt and I don't think the 8600 gts will either (according to reviews I've read about the 8600 gts)

In DX10 capable games the 8600's will be hammered because they'll run DX10 which is a lot more demanding whereas the older cards will run DX9 which is less demanding.

Get this card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121068

With this PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817189005

The Asus card is quiet and very powerful for the price. :) Not so sure on Oblivion.

MSI is cheaper and it is more powerfull

However, in my opinion any DX10 video card, other than 8800 series, is a waste of money. 8600 series are not powerful enough to run DX10 games.

I recommend 7900GS which cost the same as 8600GT but perform better

Or get 8800GTS 320MB

thanks for the replies

that's different from what other reviews I've read but seems to make more sense

so in addition to the price of the card I still have to buy a Power Supply Unit..?
I really want to get a 8800 gts so I think I'm going to wait a little longer before buying a card, also I'm upgrading my RAM soon which should at least give me a bit smoother game play on some current games. Lets see.. the next holiday is father's day, do you guys think there will be a Father's day sale on video cards (like for example a store wide 10% off everything at Circuit City or something)? (June 17)

Does anyone have any idea when ATI will be releasing DX10 cards? that should give a bit of a price drop on current DX10 cards, atleast I hope

also what's the cheapest PSU I could get that would power a 8800 gts efficiently, the one GCR looks good but I've been reading the PSU forum and users are talking about 600w+ PSUs that go for 90$+

costs just keep running in, I seriously started out thinking I wouldn't have to spend more than 250$ to get my computer up to current tech but I'm looking at nearly 500$
