Video Card Help (Lots of questions!)

Our computer is an older model that we haven't used for gaming much. Recently, we bought the game GuildWars for it.

We meet all the required specifications except for one- our video card.

Our current card is the Intel(R) 82810E Graphics Controller.

We sent a directx report (DxDiag through the run menu) to the people at GuildWars reporting our gaming problems, which is how we found out that our Graphics Card is out of date. This is is the message they sent us back:

"Unfortunately this error is being caused by your (Intel(R) 82810E Graphics Controller). This is an unsupported video device for the game. Guild Wars only supports ATI and NVIDIA chipset video adapters, except for the Intel 915G. You would need to buy a new video card to resolve this problem. I have pasted below the minimum and recommended game specs for you to review."

I have questions about this, now. Does this mean that the Intel 915G would be supported and allow the game to run as it normally should? If so, does this mean that our computer is compatable, considering the fact that we already have a card by Intel in our system?

They followed this by posting all the game specs, which, as already stated, we meet other than the video card.

The minimum system specifications state that we would need:
"ATI's Radeon 8500 or NVIDIA's GeForce 3 Series Video Card with 32 MB of VRAM"

The recommended system specifications state that we would need:
"ATI's Radeon 9000 or NVIDIA's GeForce 4 Series Video Card with 64 MB of VRAM or better"

We would definately like to stick with the recommended system specifications (over the minimum) if possible.

So, first of all, how do you know if your computer has an extra video card slot open for a new card? Or do you just take out the old one and replace it with the newly purchased one? How do we know if our computer is compatible with the required cards for game play?

We researched the Radeon 9000 card. We found ATI's Radeon 9250 for only $68. Would the ATI Radeon 9250 card run the game as well?

Looking at the whole thing, we don't want to spend over $100 on the card- does this sound like a reasonable price limit?

The only Intel graphics supported are the 915G which you don't have. I'm almost sure you have intergrated graphics, that means the video card is built into the motherboard. To find out the slots, you'll just have to pop open your computer and see what you have. Generally computers have AGP or PCI-E slots. $100 will buy you a nice card.

Okay, thanks. We've popped open the back before to put more memory in, so At least we know what to do there :)

Will the Radeon card be compatible with any computer then, as long as you have an open slot for it? And does it matter what type of slot there is (AGP versus PCI-E) for what card you want (for example, would the Radeon card fit into the AGP but not the PCI-E slot)?
 
If you have an AGP card then it will only fit into an AGP slot. Same thing applies to PCI and PCI-E. The 9250 will be able to play GW but only on low to medium settings.
