I have picked out the majority of parts for the PC I'm building, however, I'm stumped on picking a video card. I will be using my comp for gaming and will also be buying an HDTV to use as my monitor. Any suggestions? Is HDMI an option? Would it be worth it?

I would assume you've got motherboard with PCI-E x16 slot and having a quality PSU with min. 500W

Since you are going to hook it to TV, I suggest you go for ATI card as they support sound through HDMI.

What is your budget for Video card?
I suggest you get min. of 4770/ 4850 < 4870 < 4890. Choose one depends on your budget.

heres my setup so far, my total budget is about $2000 CND

COOLER MASTER HAF 932 RC-932-KKN1-GP Black Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case - $179.99

XIGMATEK Dark Knight-S1283V 120mm Long Life Bearing CPU Cooler - $49.99

CORSAIR CMPSU-850TX 850W ATX12V 2.2 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply - $164.99

Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor - $354.99

CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory - $131.49

Foxconn BloodRage GTI LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard - $279.99

Total so far = $1154.44

lol that's the first time I added everything up I have a lot more to go with my budget! Then again, I still have to buy the TV, and I'm also buying bulbs and LEDs to put inside, but I guess I can spend up to say, $500 on a video card.

One last thing. Will text be easily readable this way? I will be doing a lot of programming work on my machine so I need txt to be easily readable.

I'd recommend with your budget, either the 4890, or a 4870 X2 for pure brute power. Either card will perform very well at high resolutions, but the 4870 X2, where it's a dual GPU, will eat most anything in properly supported games.
