Video card issues

I'm trying to update from onboard graphics to a PCI card :( on XP.
I uninstall the old graphic drivers, hook up the video card and plug the monitor into it. But every time i try to install the drivers for the card an error comes up saying try installing with a standard VGA adapter.

I have tried both enable VGA mode and safe mode but the same error keeps coming up. Any help with this would be appreciated.
 
Is it ATI? I seem to recall once having an issue where it required the standard VGA adapter drivers installed before it would continue. Try loading those first then load your drivers.

Or, if you can find an INF in the driver pack, direct device manager to that.
