video card/monitor issue

first off hello everyone i am new to this board

my problem is i just upgraded to the nvidia fx5700 ve from pny
and when i set the resolution to 1280 x 1024 i get monitor flicking
after checking both the card and monitor specs
i see that my monitor only refreshes at 60hz
while the card refreshes @ 85hz at those resolutions also in 16bit color
i tried useing custom settings with the nview but after a while it starts to flicker again.
does any one have any suggestions

this is new problem for me and i have been building systems for a while.
oh i am using a mx 200 with those setings and no flickering.

Try going to display properties->settings tab->click advanced->monitor tab and change the refesh rate to 85Hz

Wouldn't his problem be that the refresh rate is too high for the monitor? I don't think that model can go over 80 Hz.

I didn't actually check the model :o he said it was running w/o flicker at those settings so I assumed (probably wrongly, that it was running @85Hz or better)

let me clear some things up
with the 5700 card the refresh rate is 85hz @1280x1024 won't do 60hz
the monitor's refresh rate is 60hz won't go to 85hz
i tried a custom setting using nvidia nview
1280x1024 16bitcolor @ 85hz but after a day or two it flickers again sometimes after i restart.

ok i tried refresh force and my monitor only refreshes @ 60hz no matter the resolution so am i screwed or is there a tool for monitor's?
this only happens with my new card i have a mx200 that works fine.
but i need better graphics for editing photo's.(visually) not performance.

you guys won't believe this but: it turns out that the problem was fixed by simply switching to analog. no more flickering and i have more refresh options
60,70,72,85hz and more resolution options as well. and the screen is brighter to.

How do you switch it to analog?

it comes with two ports one dvi and one vga
and they supplied the cables . so i just changed cables and hooked it up to
the video card vga port. and bingo no more problems.
