I have an old gateway with version 1.1 agp slot. can i upgrade to a radeon 9000 (which is 2x/4x compatible). If not what could I upgrade to with this type of slot. Thanks

Radeon 9000? Yes you can! However, it is made for Direct X 8.1, and thus may not be very suitable for big new games. If you have some money, then consider getting a better card that is DirectX 9 compatible. The 9000 used to retail on ATI's site for over $96. A card for your older computer like this: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-426&depa=0

would be much more suitable for gaming on an older machine. It is slighty cheaper too, at $94. Hey, with FedEx Saver Shipping, shipping only costs $0.99

It is AGP 4X and 8X compatible. AGP like this is backwards compatible, so no worries.

Check out newegg.com for other cards. Crank it up man, better and cheaper!

By the way, what is the wattage of your power supply?

well my processor is really slow, so I don't think I am going to try to play any of the new games. I currently have the highest processor my motherboard will allow right now and I don't feel like upgrading mobo. So I think 64mb will really be all I need for the games I want to play with my processor (pIII 600mhz). So the radeon 9000 is directx 9 compatible.

Yes, you can use the Radeon 9000 with DirectX 9. It should be okay. Lorand has the same card and DirectX 9. I even installed the 9000 on my aun't computer, (had a 425 some Mhz Pentium 3 processor, works great). So, you are correct. It should all be fine for your needs. Happy gaming! :)
