I am trying to replace my roomates Video card for Christmas. It doesnt really need to be upgraded, but if the price is relatively the same as the old card.. AND it fits. Why not right?

So, he has this card
Geforce FX 6800 with 256 MB RAM UHMGA11-B PCI-E

And its a dell..

So any help?

thx!

You can replace it with any PCI-E video card, you just need to keep an eye out for the power requirements for the newer cards.

Ya, small world.. Still need a job? Im sure she would not mind getting the kickback from the company.. ;)

Depends, is he / she into gaming?

He is a little into gaming, a little steam CS every now and again. Nothing new and hard on the computer.

If Source games are all he's playing then honestly he wouldn't really need anything more than the 6800. But as as long as the power supply can handle it, then any pci-e card should work.

Im not a fan of Mail in rebates unless they are worth my time. $20 that I will receive in 6-10 months (maybe, while supplies last). I am happy with my pick, but thanks for the input anyway.

I understand, but even before the MIR they are only around $40, but are much, much better in terms of performance then the 6200 is. He won't be able to play any game thats not several years old. I doubt he could play CSS, although CS would work.
