I'm looking at video cards and I see different kinds: AGP, PCI, etc... What does this mean. Do I need a certain card in order for it to be compatible with my Mobo?

dont listen to Pfunk. the answer is yes. you need to kno what kind of mobo you have. like is it PCI ezpress or AGP? also its all explained in Video Card 101

Yes, your motherboard must have the right slot for the card you want to buy.

If you look closley at your motherboard, the graphics slot which will be above the pci slots, it will have small print saying what kind it is. If your mobo is less than 10 years old, which i assume it is it will be AGP 8x or PCI-E 16x. PCI-E is newer, and faster. Last year there werent very many pci-e cards, but now with ati new sellection of cards, the 1k family and nvidias 7800 ultra theres more to chose from

If his motherboard is 9 years old it wont be a AGP 8x or a PCI-E 16x. It would have an AGP at best.

It would be great for those games. It depends though what you will be playing in the future, the 9600 Pro would be a more future proof option if there is such a thing in this price range. They are more expensive, at $70+ for the Pro version, and Ironically 84+ for the normal, worse version. Another option would be the 6600, for 80+. Any more questions?

Then the 9250 is pretty good. another option would be the FX5500, around the same price
