Video card showing wrong amount of Memory?

I have a Radeo HD 5450 512mb video card installed in my computer, but whenever I run a test on systemrequirementslab.com to see if I can run a game, it says my video card only has 243.1mb of video ram, and when I run dxdiag it says too says I only have 243mb of video memory. Whats with this? Why is it showing 243mb instead of 512mb?

You either have a bad card or it uses hypermemory which means it borrows from the system memory when it needs it.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't use hypermemory, but is there any way for me to check to see if it is a bad card..? And I've just noticed that for some games on systemrequirementlab.com it says the card has 512mb, but for other games it shows 243.1mb... So I have no idea whats up with that o.O

I highly doubt your graphic card is defective...you can try out different softwares to test the ram...if u are running windows 7 then download this widget called "GPU meter v1.1" it'll give u a live feedback how much memory you have exactly on ur GPU and how much is being used...additionally it'll tell u the temperature, fan speed etc of the GPU...its a very neat widget...try it

PS: If i remember correctly, GTA 4 would tell you exactly how much GPU ram you have in its graphic options...if you have it then try installing it on (just a suggestion)

If gpu-z is showing you that you have 512mb then I dont really think you have anything to worry about. Do you have a problem when you play games? Crashes, Lag?

Only problem I've really noticed is that when I had the Sims 3 installed on my system it ran great for a while but then it suddenly started lagging real bad, and im still not sure why. It's kind of hard to tell if there something wrong with my card by just relying on whether or not games run great though, because the 5450 isn't exactly a great card.
