Video card test

I'm currently running an 8800GT with the latest drivers and I am planning on testing a 9600GT on this rig for temps, noise, etc. Might plan on reapplying the thermal paste and I wanted to make sure I did a good job haha. Anyways, most likely a stupid question, but if I wanted to install the 9600GT, could I simply remove my 8800GT, install the 9600GT and then install the 9 series drivers? Or would I have to uninstall the 8 series drivers first?

On a side note, what is a good idle temp range for a 9600GT? I'm just used to my current card always being hot lol

ive never had to uninstal previous drivers to install a new card. wouldnt bank on that being the case 100% of the time though. not sure about good idle temps (mine idles wayyy to hot at 80c, smart fan huh) but you dont want load temps to be too much past 80c.

just uninstall the 8800 series drivers and install the 9600 drivers when you have installed it.

Why on earth you would want to swap a 8800gt for a 9600 though i dont know.

It's not a permanent swap. I'm reapplying the thermal paste with some AS5 for a friend and I wanted to double check to make sure that I applied it fine. He's about 400 miles away and I bought it for him, I'm going to install it in his computer over spring break lol. I probably might do the same for my card first though.

No idea for temps, below 80c with load is probably acceptable.

Un-install 8800 drivers > Remove 8800 > Put in 9600 > Install 9600 drivers. Simple.

Good luck!
