Video card to run CSS

im looking for a video card upgrade from a radeon x300 128 mb. right now i play on lowest settings and 1024 X 768. my problem is i get huge fps drops in high graphic areas and in smoke n stuff like that. im looking for something that will be consistent in any situation. price range is $120, maybe a bit more but preferably not. i don't expect to run it on highest settings with 200 fps either. soo any help would be great.
 
Anything above the 8500GT will play CSS nicely. I have a 8600GT and it runs with on Max with 2X, 4X Anti-Aliasing. But mine is the overclock edition, so it has a increased GPU and Memory speed. Also, like Oscaryu1 said, the Ati Radeon HD3850 256mb is a great card too.
 
8600's and 8500's are rips. DX10 is what attracts people to them. You'd be better off with a DX9 card than one of those. If you really don't want to go ATI, then at LEAST get a 8600GTS.

You're saying there rips? Why, those are great mid-range cards, I max CS:S with mine? I didn't buy mine for DX10 because I use XP which doesn't even support DX10.

When you bought it, those were the only ones in that price range... Now there's better cards that have better performance for the price.

Not saying yours is a rip, just saying that you're better off spending a bit more cash and getting a better card...
 
he has an x300 so its safe to say he doesnt have a motherboard capable of all those cards you guys posted? go with an x800, its a huge upgrade from the card you have and they can be found at great prices
