Video Card Upgrade Question

Indeed, that's a nice card, but I don't see a Power Supply listed in your specs.

Minimum of a 500 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 36 Amps.)

Rosewill and only 35 amps. total on the 12V rail. Hum?

260

Question 1: Could anyone recommend me towards one that would work with this?

Question 2: If i SLI'ed two 8800gts 320 mb vid cards would that be better than this card??

how do you tell amps total on the 12V rail?

On the 12v rails? See under all the 12v rails is listed ____ watts? Take that wattage and divide by twelve, for example, on the 700W ocz there is 675W over the 12v rails, 675watts divided by 12 volts=56.25 amps.

You dont just add up the max amps on each rail if your looking at a multi rail PSU to get the total amps. That just the max amount any one rail can pull at a time. Like bomberboysk said, take the max Watts on the 12V rail and divide it by 12 and that will give you close to the total amps on the 12V rail.

Why is that?

4 x 18Amp rails doesn't equal 72Amps?

Just curious how combining two 18Amp rails doesn't give you 36Amps, etc.

The amps rated on each rail is just the max amps the (one) rail can pull without tripping the Power Supply. The total amount of amps that the 12V rails can supply ( power supply as a whole) can be estimated by taking the max. watts on the 12V rail and divided by 12.

Example, I have a old 550 watt PSU. It has dual 20 amps rails. But only has 35 amps total on the 12V. If one rail pulls 21 amps it will trip the PSU. But if one rail is pulling 19 amps that only leaves 16 amps for the other rail. The rating is just what any (one) rail can pull.
