Video Converter!! HELP PLEASE!

Hello all,


Yesterday, my dad gave me an USB stick containing AVI files of an un-licenced TV show he downloaded from a site. He wanted me to convert it to MPEG-4 so that our DVD player can read it. I was wandering if you guys can tell me the best free program to convert this.

SUPER, but you have to know what you're doing since you choose the options, and then there is WinAvi which I use to convert stuff into DVD format.

Usually the burning software will encode it then burn it onto a blank disc, but it'll take a while to finish.
 
Thanks a lot, but for the xilisoft converter, it is a trial. Are there any converters that are absolutely free?
