Video Driver Problem on my Laptop, please help

Hello, about 6 months ago my computer's fan broke, causing my laptop to overheat resulting in my hard drive crashing. I took this to get repaired and I was able to get back most of the stuff I lost. However, the computer repairer said he couldn't get the correct video driver back on my computer. Now, I know little to nothing about computers, but I would think a professional should be able to fix this for me. However, he couldn't and since then, my computer has been just functional.

The problem is the resolution of the screen is messed up and when I adjust it, it becomes worse. Also, watching videos on my computer is not as good as it should be and when I try to stream a video it doesn't really work. What can I do to fix it, instead of having to bring it to a computer repairer who will undoubtedly charge me a lot of money for it. If it comes down to it, that's what I'll do, but I'm hoping someone here can help me.

Thanks in advance.

Try plugging in an external monitor to test the graphics on another screen.

What Video card do you have? What is the model no / serial of the laptop. You can then try and download the latest video drivers and install them from the manufacturer.

Failing that, the overheating might have caused damage.
