Video editing software

Im looking for a video editing program. I have tried the ulead media studio pro and the ulead video studio 9.0 and I have been unsatisfied with the video quality. I made a dvd at the highest quality settings it would let me (9800kb/s) and still the picture quality was crap. It had artifacting, rough edges, and it just plain looked as if I downloaded it off the internet. I am using a Sony MiniDV camcorder with a Mega Pixel CCD. Anyone else having a problem with Ulead's software? Is there any software which produces good quality movies?

well...when I do some video work, I usually will import the files into windows movie maker(very basic to use ;) ) Then I will export the compressed video, then import that into Roxio, and burn it onto a dvd, and mine arent ever crappy

no none at all...windows movie maker is a fairly decent program...I have made several different movies in there and i never experience any "jaggies" or artifacting...

No Crap!

I've tried roxio, i've tried NERO, i've tried Pinnacle studios 9, i've tried ArcSoft SowBiz 2. They’re ALL CRAP! I finely found MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 10 it's great ON IT'S THE BEST! and it's also great for sound editing.

MAGIX Movie Edit Pro 10

Basically I want a program that works like Final Cut Pro. I dont have a Mac so I cant use it. I want the type of editing that has the timeline at the bottom, not one that has me go through a wizard or something like that. So far Adobe Premiere and Ulead Media Studio Pro are the programs I know of that apeal to my editing standards. Id Premiere has a trial or something Im going to try it out.

has anyone tried the Sony stand alone VRDVC 20 direct DV recorder? I've just about given up on making high quality movies on my computer.

magix is great for editing MPEG 1\2, AVI, WAV, MP3....... really good quality and gives you a lot of options. now if you burn a DVD with magix the video quality is very good but the menu options reek they are vary primitive and so are roxio, NERO, Pinnacle studios 9, ArcSoft SowBiz 2. how if you wont the most DVD Options MEDIACHANCE DVD-lab PRO is the most advanced DVD Authoring software I know of it lets you create subtitles multi language tracks and very advanced menus http://www.mediachance.com/dvdlab/

You are about on the spot That I am. I wish that I could find a different program to take stuff off of my camcorder and download it into the computer. Sony's Picture Perfect is weak, unreliable,a pain.

Premiere Pro is good, but its very expensive. However now they have Premiere Pro Elements 2.0 for only $100.
