Video Editing Software

Hey im just wondering what you all use/recomend for editing?

i have used the Windows Movie Maker but didn't care for the way it's setup or functions, i have also used PowerDirector and didn't care much for it (when i could get it to function on my computer)

any others?

i dont mind buying as long as its not crazy expensive

Sorry, AP is probably what you call 'crazy expensive', but it's quite hard to get powerful tools cheap What is it you want to be able to do with a video editor? ie functions, tools etc.

Adobe Premiere is a professional video editing tool indeed. I like it because the interface is very logically built and it's easy to use if you have edited video in analog way before. But the price of it is way too high for a home user.
There are cheaper solutions too. For example AviTricks is free and worth a try.

i hope to cut together clips and lay sound into them in the background while keeping the original video sound aswell with the ability to fade both in and out

like say i have a clip of a guy on a 4wheeler about to try a stunt

at first f he is talking i would want to retain that part them after he is finishing up slowly fade in the sound to play while he is riding but not total overlaying hte original sound so that the viewer can still here that 4wheeler in the background

get my drift?

With Adobe Premiere you definitely could do that kind of stuff. But there are a lot of other video editing software on the market that can handle those effects. You could try AVid too.

There's also Premier Elements For other types of editing, VirtualDUB is the defacto proggie (and its free)

Premiere is great - very simple to use, very intuitive. Adobe After Effects can perform just as well when splicing a film together, layering sound and using transitions. Premiere mimicks the operation of a traditional video editing machine, where film tracks A and B are central to the design concept of the interface. AE is similar to Flash, or Photoshop even, in that many elements can be arranged on as many layers as you care to use. This makes it especially effective for animated transitions and collage work. It does sound as though, given what your goals are, Premiere will do more than enough for you, and unless you are going to make good use of it, learning the ins and outs of AE is most likely a waste of time.
