Video Editing

I don't know whats the best because I havn't really tried many...BUT since it's just some amateur editing of home movies, Windows Movie Maker should do just fine. It comes pre-installed on your XP machine.

to be honest i reckon movie maker will be cool, like dave says if its amateur editing then it'll be fine, i use premier 1.5 and thats cool and theres also avd, but thats getting well into it. but its cool if you want to progress. what are you editing?

one problem that i find with movie maker is the poor quality effects but if its just basic then it should be alrite. and the transistions arent that good in my opion but it should be all good.

Two

I'm using Sony Vegas 4.0 and MainActor 5.2 . Sony Vegas is good but size is too big (only 10 minutes 2 GB size) . How can I make size smaller?

try cyberlink, not free but its good file sizes and heaps easy to use. Thats what i use to edit my videos, plently of features and special effects in the program.

There should be an option on the camera dealing with pixels or resolution...set it lower and your files would be smaller.

I never used that program before, but when you go and make the movie, you should have a few choies of what format to make it (avi, mpeg, wmv...etc). if you chose mpeg or something, it should automatically compress it for you, so i won't end up with a huge file.

Oh I thought he meant that the files stored on the camera were too big...but anyways...my last post deals with making the file smaller on the camera..

But if you were to use windows movie maker, when you go to "Make Movie File" make sure you configure it to save it to a small file. With movie make you can specify amost exactly what size to make the output file. Just look around on how to do that when you save. I cant recall exactly at the moment but after you hit next a few times, you should see some blue text saying something like "more options" and thats when you will see this option.

media files are massive anyway so yeah a good compressor will do the trick afterwards but do you just have 2gb space? you'll need more. ive got a 23 min vid and its like 4.23gb, its massive so yeah try and clear some of your hd if ya can and if not i reccomend another hd.:)

if i were you i'd try adobe premier 1.5 you can export avi and mpeg even quicktime. depends on what you want to do? do you want to add effects? do you already have the footage? what type of compilation? do you mean montages?
