Video Feed Loss

I have been randomly losing video feed after a length of play time on video games with my desktop computer. My drivers on my gpu are up to date, I took it in to have all the components tested and they all checked good, and the gpu isn't overheating. What is going on?

I used my neighbors card, and it did the same thing with his, but it took a couple days for his.. :s Could the board be faulty? Or is that not really a possibility?

Gigabyte Ultra Durable motherboard M68MT-S2P, ATi Radeon 5770 HD graphics card, and a 750 Watt 750W 120mm Fan ATX Power Supply 12V 2.3 EPS12V 2.92 PCI-Express SATA 20/24 PIN Intel AMD by KenTek. Sorry if that's too much info. I don't know a WHOLE lot about computers, so I don't know what you need to know.

One of my buddies just mentioned to me that I don't have a fan in the front of my case to blow on my hard drive. It's warm to the touch right now, and I can only imagine it gets warmer once I start gaming. There's a spot in my case to have a fan in the front, but it was one I had to build. Could that be it?

no i wouldnt imagine thats what it would be...you should have 2 outputs on your video card, try to switch the output. see if that makes a difference

The psu seems like its a decent unit, $144 regular retail. Could be the mobo video slot overheating. Open the side of the case and have a fan blow on it and see if it works ok. If it does then something is overheating.

I only have the one output on mine. And what's a "mobo" video slot? And you are sure that the hard drive wouldn't be overheating and causing this issue without the fan in there? I bought it as a bundle deal, so I put it together myself, but it had no fan there. It CAN have a fan, but I didn't notice til just now. I also get critical errors from my games sometimes. It shuts them down and says "critical error" and whatnot.

It's the slot where the video card goes in. And as said by Kdfresh, I doubt its because you don't have a fan on the hard drive.

Yeah I took the panel off, and it actually sounded worse. As the video feed cut out, the fan speed on the video card got extremely louder, and kept doing that until I had to manually shut off the computer. I have a fan on the side panel that blows directly on the video card when the panel is shut too. To me with my very limited experience, it sounds like the board is f'd up or something..

Well, there has been no bios updates for that board. And I'm not sure if resetting the cmos will do anything in this case. You may have to take it in and pay a small diagnosis fee.

Well that's the thing. I took it in, and they did a diagnoses for like 55 bucks or something, and they said everything passed. So that's why I came online to see if anyone has any other inside info.. :s

sorry but im not sure where you bought it from. if from newegg, or anywhare really, try rma'ing the motherboard. getting a new one should , maybe solve the problem

Yeah, I was thinking maybe it could be the slot? Correct me if i'm wrong. Either the slot or something with the board..I mean, since it did it with two different card, then i'm pretty sure it's not my card. I may try to swap boards with my neighbor to see if that changes.

You can't just swap boards and expect it to boot up, each has different hardware and you will probably get a blue screen or it will boot loop on you.

So how would you replace a board if you needed to? Do you have to basically start from scratch by installing the OS, and whatnot. Just like building it brand new again?

Yep. The only time you can switch boards and not reinstall the OS is when they are the same board, sometimes as long as it has the same chipset it can work.

Turns out it may be the memory. Swapped memory with my neighbor (for some weird reason) and nothing else, and haven't had any issues. His is 4gig, and mines 8gig, so a little slower on gameplay, but nothing with my video feed has gone wrong.
