Video from Laptop to HDTV

I'm not sure if this is the correct directory for my question, but here it goes.

I have an HP pavilion dv4000 laptop and want to hook it up to my LG 30fz4d HDTV. My laptop has an ATI Mobility Radeon x700 and runs games great, but I do not like the lcd screen as it is really annoying and is starting to hurt my eyes.

My laptop has an s/vga, s-video, and expansion port. HP sells a media cable containing an s-video and audio cables that connects to the expansion port on the laptop. I tried a s-video cable that connected to the svideo port in my tv but the quality was very dissapointing. Would the expansion port make any difference than the svideo to svideo?

I want to take advantage of my HDTV and its widescreen display, which the svideo did not seem to transfer. My hdtv has various component slots and an HDMI port. I have searched for a VGA to HDMI cable, but have been unable to find one. What I have found, though, are VGA to Component cables and thats what I am planning to buy. But Before I buy this, I would like to know if this setup would take advantage of the hdtv and if not are there are any cables that will?

Thanks for any feed back/

That's really the best option, I doubt you'll see much of an increase in quality with any expansion packs
