Video importing from Sony camcorder and production software

Hi

Recently my family purchased a Sony DVD Handycam 306, and so-far it hasn't disappointed, however I now have a problem with taking the video off of the 8cm DVD’s and compiling on to a full 4.7 GB disc, (can get about 3 small ones on one big one)

The software provided by Sony is not very good, since first installation messed up and Kaspersky antivirus screamed at me. when I finally got a 4.7Gb Disc burnt (took about 2 hours!) on every DVD player (including 2 computers), it would stutter all over the place until finally it would just freeze, its worth mentioning here that the juttering only starts happing about over half way through the disc, however one thing that throws a spanner in the works is only one DVD player has managed to play through, it was a Panasonic one, Also in a new Samsung DVD player said the disc was prohibited! WHY? when the master 8cm DVD's are perfectly fine used anywhere. It’s just that I don’t want our holiday spread across 9 8cm DVD+RW's when it could be on 3 full sized ones.

So basically I would love some help in backing up our video footage and to make small edits. If people could point me in the direction of some software. Freeware would be great, but also fairly inexpensive retail software is no problem.

Thanks in advance
JD

ok you just want to back up your recorded stuff and edit right ?
why don't you convert your vids to dvd using a freeware program ?
then burn..by the way what extension does your camera record in ?

if i understand your thread correctly..lol

Basicly i want to make a copy of the vids on the 8cm DVD's but in stead of just doing a 1:1 copy i want to merge 3 8cm disc's on to one full sized disc. And the camcorder is a Sony DCR-DVD306 but i have no idea how to find the file extension of the vids as when i explore a disc it just looks like the same as if i was a exploring a dvd bought from a shop,

can't find anything anyware about the format used?

When i did use the Sony software it did import the vids in to mpeg2 (Dolby 5.1), but when i came to burning it just messed up.

so let me understand you, you want to squeeze SOME** video onto 1 disc right?
sorta like 3 dvd movies fitting on only 1dvd-r right ?
if so, sorry we can't help you ,you're alone on this

No sorry you miss understand

The sony camcorder records on to 1.4GB disc's so i simply need to import them and compile as much as i can fit on to a normal 4.7GB disc

E.G 1.4GB x3 = 4.2GB which is less than 4.7GB

oh ok i see (or so i think)
you didn't say which extension it records into ...??

The sony camcorder records on to 1.4GB disc's

you meant to say it records onto a physical disk ?
