Video Lagging Audio

Hello all, I have a Sony Vaio laptop with nvidia geforce graphics...not sure if this is a graphics issue but the problem I have been having recently is when watching a video...it started with Windows Media Player videos I was streaming, the video is lagging the audio. I tried to watch those same videos that I had downloaded to my computer a year ago (which used to work fine) and the same problem. I noticed last night that now it is doing the same thing when streaming a netflix video. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help.

Plugged in...check
DirectX...check
Windows Update...check

I used to have a program to check for driver updates.
Any idea where to go for a good one or another method for checking?
