video problems

I don't know if it's just that i have a crappy processor 666mhz intel. every time i want to watch a video clip the video is slow and not insync with the background noise/music. anybody?
 
It's a crappy processor alright. But you should add a little more information on the system and installed hardwares to see you through. How much memory do you have like 128mb or 256mb? Do you have a 64mb or 128mb video card. What are you using for sound? Have you updated video and sound drivers as far as you could? What are you using as a player?

These are the questions anyone responding will be asking. If the system is upgradable you will probably spend for a faster cpu, new video card, and increasing memory what would be a good down payment on a new system. But first let's try to walk you through with what you have there.
 
It'll probably be the processor or GPU...

I have the same problem - and I have 384MB of RAM.
But I only have a 350mhz processor, and it's an iMac..
 
I have 128 mb sdram, I don't know about the video card, I'm just using windows media player,and i just did a bunch of updating on my system wich included some kind of video upgrade. I'll see if that helped and get back to you guys. somehow i doubt it though.

To run the new WIN Media Player you have the 233mhz minimum for WMP 10 already covered. But you may want to go with WMP 9. To look over the minimum and recommended go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/mp10/readme.aspx#System
 
I would upgrade the ram if I were you. At least another 128mb of sdram, but you will need to tell us what type of ram like sdram 130, 133, etc...

There is no PC130 memory. It goes up from PC33 then PC66 seen on I286 toI486 with PC100 on I586 models followed by PC133. Any increase of ram would improve overall system performance depending how much it can be upgraded to. If the board takes three 256mb simms then you be at 768mb. With 98 and ME going over 512mb however will see issues. :rolleyes:

You should have no problem running with that 666 processor. I have a 333mhz processor with 64mb and I watch movies fine.

Make sure your video card is good enough to watch it though. Like for example, if you go into your settings (right click on your desktop>Properties>Settings>Color quality) and check if it can be 24-bit to 32-bit.. in color, then you should be ok.

It's most likely your video codec, or the video has been compressed incorrectly with the sound and video not being in sync.

What type of file is it? is it an .avi? .mpg? Knowing this, you can find the right codec to possibly solve your problem.
 
The minimum requirement for the cpu for running WMP 10 is 233mhz with 64mb for video and 128mb for ram. Video playback in different formats often takes a bit more to run smoothly as well as having the codecs for the type you are trying to watch. Yet some formats will still not run even on a newer model system since that is not supported at all. my video codecs are as follows: iccvid.dll,indeo video 5.10,ir32-32.dll,microsoft windows media video 9 vcm,msh261 drv,msh263 drv,msrle 32.dll,msvidc 32.dll,msyuv.dll
 
Sometimes if it isn't drivers or codecs you may be looking at memory faults developing. How old is the case itself. I push video and graphics quite often yet still find time to run a good memory tester like memtest or others. On an older board like that you should try a few benchmark utilities to see how things actually are. Here's a few sites to look over in that area.
