Hey Guys,

I've been building my own computer for years, but now I need to build a computer for my Restaurant's Video surveillance. I was wondering would a quad core processor really benefit here? or will a core 2 duo work just fine? If anyone has specific hardware suggestions please let me know!! or just general good to know information! This computer will be on 24/7.

Thanks for your help!!!!!

A friend of mine has Video surveillance all around his house and does the exact thing your wanting to do.

His pc consists of a Dual core Athlon X64,3gb of ram and intergrated graphics....dont know the rest but you dont realy need a demanding system just for Video surveillance.

What you will need though is quite a large hard drive to record and store the video.
My friend has a 500Gb external hard drive and it works well, the system he got with his cameras allow him to delete videos after a certian amount of time to free up space,He can view all the cameras in split boxes on the screen too.

A core 2 duo will work fine,no need for a quad but the quad would be nice.

Hey man I've got a capture card for video surveillance we used for a bit, to keep an eye on the back garden when someone had tried breaking the lock on our garage. Here's the card I have: http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=46113

It doesn't need much processing power at all, a cheap single core processor should do the job just fine. Just get a large HDD to store all the video footage on.

Yeah, a budget cpu is all you really need for something like that, i would venture to say a cheaper amd dual core would be your best bet in a rig like this, integrated graphics, and a 1TB or so hdd.
