Video tours of your rig?

Have any of you uploaded any videos of your self-built rigs? I'd really like to see some if you have. I think they're just fun to look at and they would give me some ideas, too.

Besides, some of the rigs I've seen people posting pictures of look like they should be in a museum. Some of you (definitely not me) are artists and I have an appreciation for what you can do with your creativity. It's also fun to see what ordinary, less-creative people, such as myself come up with, too. :)

Here's a quick tour of the budget gaming rig I built this past May. I'm not the best @ camera stability...nor am I great with cable management, so bear with me!

Very nice! You need more light in videos. Kind of hard to see stuff. Also not a fan (haha punny, I just realized that as I was typing it) of the red and blue fans. I think 2 blues on front and 2 reds on top would look better or possibly all of one color.

Of course that's just me.

You also keep referring to it's great performance. Don't get me wrong I believe you but I wouldn't mind seeing a video or two of you playing some games to see how it performs!

pretty good idea, not sure why nobody has started one of these before, unless there's one a couple hundred pages back, but still, if only my rig was vid worthy :)

You don't like the blue and red, eh? :) I really don't mind it, but the thought had occurred that all red would look pretty cool. What do ya think?

As far as the performance goes, I'll upload a video as soon as I get a chance. We had a huge thunderstorm roll through Omaha earlier this week, and our computer systems on campus have been going haywire. They finally got wireless back up (i'm writing this on my cheap laptop), but as soon as they get the wired network connections going in the dorms again I'll post a video for you.

As I said, I'm playing Black Ops on max settings @ 1680 x 1050. I wish I had a true 1080p monitor to try it on though.... :)

Any rig is vid-worthy! :) Even if it is a "classic" (*cough* *cough* *old!*) machine. :D

I would actually do all blue but my whole room is blue so that may be why... :D

All solid of either color would look good or as I suggested, blue on intake, and red on exhaust. Kind of like cool "blue" air going in and red "hot" air going out. But seriously it already looks good.

I'm assuming you're running on one monitor due to your resolution you mentioned? Part of the reason I'm wondering about performance is my new build is similar to yours, slightly better in a few categories. Just wondering what I can expect out of my build.

Yeah, your processor definitely beats mine (assuming it's the one in your signature)....and I've heard that the Radeon HD 6750 and 6770 are just "rebranded" 5750's and 5770's (can you confirm this?)....so you may even have me beat on gpu as well. However, you shouldn't be disappointed with your system.

When can you start building? You should do a build video...and a "tour' of your machine once you're done with it. I'd love to see what your systems performance is like.

For my games, yes...I use one monitor for those. I have some system performance gadgets I run on the other monitor so I can see how my system resources are being used as I play...and I have been pleasantly surprised. :)

Yeah the 6770 is just a rebranded 5770. I was going to get the 6770 but the 5770 was 10 dollars cheaper, came with Shogun 2, which I was going to buy soon anyway, and had a 20 dollar rebate on top of that. So I chose the 5770. :)

Yeah everything in my sig is my future rig. My final 3 parts won't show up until next week so I won't start until then. Another handy thing is my monitor only goes up to 1600x900, which will give me performance gains since I'll be playing at lower than HD resolution.

I'm really really excited for my build. I've been wanting to get a new computer for several years and being a young teenager I didn't exactly have the cash to do that or parents that would buy me anything I wanted. Good thing too or I'd be screwed when I move out. :D

Overall I think my system will perform really well considering the cost. Since I ordered everything over the course of a month or so I don't know the total cost exactly. I think it was like $610 for everything in my sig.

Oh and hey from the state to your south. :)

Haha, well ya know what? You probably won't have cash until you're out of college. I'm just starting my sixth (and final) year of college this year, and I'm still broke. :)

Your machine is very decent for a teenager. Of course we all want better parts than what we have, but your build will be great. When I was your age (15...if your age is correct on the side) I built my first computer. It had an AMD Athlon processor running at 957 mhz with 128 mb of RAM...and it was nothing super special, but it was not low-end either...all of my friends were jealous. Ahhh....the memories. I loved that machine. :)

Anyway, I'm excited for you. Building a computer from scratch is so much fun and super rewarding. Is this your first build?

Yes. I've modified some computers such as swapping parts but I've never started from the ground up.

It is sad to know that in a few years this machine won't be much.

Being in college and having spending money normally don't go together.

Well, your computer seems fairly "future-proof" to me. I always build so the computer will at least last me 5 years (that's half a decade :) ). And even after all of the components are outdated you can still find a use for the machine. Occasionally I need to upgrade a component, but the computers I have built have always lasted.

My old machine is 5 years old and is still chuggin away back at home. That thing will play Modern Warfare 2 without skipping a beat. :)

Yeah I was advised by many people on this forum to get a more future proof computer. I probably could have saved at about 100 dollars and gotten around the same performance on games (for now at least) but then I would be in trouble in a couple years when I can't upgrade it.

I'm hoping this will last me at least until college.

yours will be fine till college, though the gpu is the only true weak point, in the next year you will begin to notice it's age hitting it like a brick, but it's still a good card and will prob get medium to good settings on bf3.

Yeah I'm aware my card is the weakest point. I was going to get the GTX 465 but it went out of stock a day after I ordered my last parts so if I had waited for the GTX 465 I would have ended up with this card anyways. I'll be sure to post pictures of it probably on Wednesday if all goes according to plan.

make sure to include some screenshots with your fps too (and settings too preferably), that's always the real question to me

I'm typing this from my new build right now. :D :D

Everything went great. Had to apply some more pressure than I thought would be needed on a few parts like the CPU cooler but everything went well. I'll post some pictures tomorrow. Right now I'm installing all the essentials.
