I really want to get this so i can have my music and watch south park episodes, simpsons, family guy, etc..
But I was wondering, with video playback the backlight is constantly on, so how long does the battery life last? Do any of you have this mp3 player and know how long it lasts? Or do any of you have a similar video playing mp3 player? If so how long can you watch video on your mp3 player?

I woudln't think it would need a backlight for video...just the light required to display the video.

Info on the bottom of that newegg page:

Battery Built-in Rechargeable Lithium Ion battery
Playing Time
Up tp 14 Hours Continuous Playback
Recharge Time Approximately 3 hours when using the AC power adaptor

Might want to take a look at their site for some more info though I guess it means 14 hours of video as well....although I mean it must play video less than audio So I wonder which they're talking about.

The backlight makes it a lot easier to see, looking at an lcd screen without a backlight is hard. (exe: worse than game boy color outside) A backlight generally drains the battery faster.

I own the X5 and love it, but let me tell you this. If you want this for a video player don't get it. The resolution isn't good enough and the screen's too small. I like it because of the open source audio format support (ie. Flac and Ogg)

The video doesn't need the backlight. Any video use will eat your battery quicker than music or not using your screen. I do suggest though for $30 more you go with the X5L. All the same features, but offers up to 30 hours of battery life. (Battery life is calculated based on shop tests) One charge will last me about 10 hours with MP3 at 192K and changing music every time a CD playlist is done.

keep in mind, I highly recomend this DAP, but if you're looking for a video player, look else where. The IPOD Video may be for you.

I personally have the 30GB Video iPod and I can get through at least an hour and a half of video before it dies. (automatically has the backlight on...) As for audio playback, I haven't really figured that out, but I can go a whole day on the charge, come back home and charge it again...
