videocard bottle neck

one way ive come to know to tell if something is being bottlenecked, is to run 3dmark 06, or similar, and write down your base scores for the 2 video and 1 cpu score. do this first with your cpu at stock. overclock your cpu to say 400mhz less than what ti is right now, and run the test again. your cpu score went up, but did you notice your gpu scores increase as well?...overclock the cpu to the point you normaly have it overclocked to, and run it again. cpu score still going up, but is the gpu climbing as well?...if so then i would say that the cpu is a bottleneck. if the gpu didnt climb much at all say only a 100 or so points then i would say that your set up is pretty balances with no bottlneck....if i interpret the concept wrong somebody please tell me and clarify where my logic is flawed....have fun
 
I also doubt the 5850 would be held back by a 3.8ghz e8500. I've had stranger though. Like a athlon 64 3200+ being the bottleneck to a HD 2600XT.
 
Yeah, I agree that you are fine. That CPU may bottleneck the card at stock speeds, but with a clock like yours you should be just fine.
