Virtual Machines' questions

Hello!
This thread is to post and answer the questions that you have while choosing, setting up or using Virtual Machine apps such as Parallels Desktop, VMWare Fusion, BootCamp e.t.c... I think it might be useful for someone.

So I have my first question.
I run Windows on my Mac using Parallels Desktop. I wonder if Parallels supports Firewire. Or it does support USB 2.0 only.. I'm going to purchase external Hard-drive and don't know yet what kind of it I should buy..
Cheers.

And another question...is there ANY good virtual pc's/emulators for linux? so I could just install linux and under linux intall 98SE on a virtual PC/emulator/whateveryawannacallit for the very few games and quite a few windows apps i use?

Well I've heard that VMware is a good virtual Pc for linux... Haven't tried it out myself though...

For those who are going to purchase Virtual Machine's soft in the nearest future, don't miss the opportunity to save your money! I've just found out that Parallels now has special spring offer.
For example, It lets you to save up to $15 on getting Parallels Desktop Premium and then $10 on its upgrading. Looks pretty nice and attractive! They call it "Break into Spring". :)
I could save my money if I buy it today. But I already have it... :o

Are programs running under virtual machines going to be very slow and laggy if you don't have a processor with virtualization technology? Or do most VM's even take advantage of this? Kind of scared of switching to linux...coz i'm going to need some Windows apps and my computer is an old @#$%&box (P3-866). So is there any hope a can run windows under a VM in this computer? I'm going to use 98SE, which is not a big resource hog.

And if I can do this, how bad hit is the performance going to take?

What do you mean by processor with Virtualization technology?
Do you have PC (P3-866)? And do you want to run Linux on it with VMWare/Parallels?
I thought we are talking about Windows/Linux on MAC... :)

You first Q is related to Macs, but I thought the idea in this thread was to post Q's regarding VMs in general...

Your first post. No word of mac there. That's why *I* didn't think we are talking about Windows/Linux on MAC...but, as I said, bout VMs in general and on ANY OS.

Ok, actually I don't mind to discuss any Virtual Machines here. :)
Me personally have Mac with Parallels Desktop on it and sometimes I have some question while using this soft...
Did previous posts help you somehow to answer your question about Linux?

Mates, how can I connect to Internet on my Mac being in Windows thru Parallels?
Does anyoune know where can I get step by step guide that will explain me in detail how to connect my Virtual Machine to Internet?
Thx. :)
