Well im curious, i currently have three HDD's installed, 20, 40, and 5 GBs
Im wondering if i allocate 0 MBs to the 20 which is the C drive, and like a gig to the 40 will my comp run faster.

Also my 40 GB HD is near empty, so im wondering if the more Virtual Memory space you allocate is that better?

Just go under the paging file window and select the drive you wish to add a paging file to and select custom size. then input the size you want. It should work.

I don't see why it wouldn't. When I was reading about it in "Hacking Windows XP" it just said that it isn't advisable to put it on a flash drive because they are too slow. I don't think there should be a problem.

still doesnt answer my question, im asking if i should keep it all on my bigger drive and have none on the C. And im also asking if the larger the allocated amount is it better?

A larger allocated space is extremely good (if you have low physical RAM) and yes you can move the paging file totally off the C drive.

By moving the paging file onto a drive that does'nt have the operating system on gives a very slight increase in performance.

No matter what RAM you have processes will still use virtual memory and is best left on auto in XP, but if you want to set it manually then 1.5 times your RAM is a good starting point but there is no performance gain above this.

If the system isn't using more then whats currently set for the page file (say for instance it's set to 1GB, but only using 700MB) then setting it to 50GB won't make a difference unless it attempts to go beyond that 1GB of virtual memory.

o ok thanx,i was just wondering b/c i dont have much RAM but i have an empty 50 GB hard drive just seeing if i could get some more use out of it
