Virtual Memory

I have been getting the "low virtual memory" error on my laptop. I deleted firefox and AIM, which was taking up most of the virtual memory and I fixed the settings on my computer to manage the virtual memory. Occasionly I get the error if I have too many windows open, but it's better now. But, recently my laptop hasn't been connecting to our wireless internet. It only connects half the time and when it does connect it works just fine. My sisters laptop is connecting to it fine so I know its not the router. Could the wireless and the virtual memory be related? Also, when I turn the computer off or restart it it takes about 5 to 10 minutes to completely shut down. It did not start this until I started getting the low virtual memory. Is there anything I can do or check for?

goto run msconfig / startup tab. start turning off programs ya don't need. thats a good start.

reboot : if ya see something in bottom tray go back again. you can do this as many times as needed. you can also go back and uncheck the startup so it starts.

on the lighter side you are using your hd for mem. adding mem is generally cheap. you should have at least 1 or 2 gig. not uncommon.

don't forget to defrag the drive.

download ccleaner (freeware).
Its housekeeping.

I don't see firefox your mem.
its a good proggy.

cheers......

Adding more memory would be the easiest thing to do. But the length of time it takes to shut down means you have other issues. You could have a program that is taking a long time to shut down or a driver that is trying to unload. Also, if this is a system that is a few years old and hasn't had a fresh install done then it may be time for that as well. Add more memory first and see how far that gets you.

Another possiblity is you may be infected. Might want to think about running some scans with your fully updated antivirus and Malwarebytes Antimalware.
