Virus attack help needed

Hi,

I think this is serious and need some help. My computer has a virus, everytime I boot up it goes into windows as usual but restricts everything, it just keeps bringing up a window saying my computer is under virus attack and wants me to buy some anti virus software.

I have logging into command prompt (F8) when booting up and every file in the c drive is proceeded with the word 'VIRUS INFECTED'.

How can I get rid of this without reformatted the hard drive? I am on my laptop at the moment which has AVG free anti virus software on it so hopefully it won't transfer through the network. The desktop (one with the virus) had no anti virus software (don't ask!!!).

Do I need a virus boot disk? can I use my 4md dongle thing to transfer any files I need?

Any help would be really appreciated.

You're not going to get away without a reformat, that I can guarantee. You could get a LiveCD Linux Distro and save whatever files you need to, but I doubt your current installatioin can be saved, unless you can pull the harddrive out, plug it as a secondary drive in another, SECURED computer and than try to scan it & clean it up. Wait for the pros to arrive, though, you never know what they have up their sleeves.
 
OK, well do the following....

If after that you are still infected, please post a Hijackthis log. To post a Hijackthis log, please do the following:
Click Here to download HJTsetup.exe


* Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
* Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
* By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
* Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
* Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
* Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
* At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
* Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
* Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
* Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
* DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.


We will look at your log as soon as we see it, and give you further instructions on how to fix your computer. Most of the time it will involve downloading more programs that will either give us logs to locate the malware or delete those malware.

Once you have posted a HJT Thread DO NOT make any changes to your PC unless the advisor helping you has instructed you to do so!
 
Thanks, I have reinstalled windows which seems to give me some operation, well enough to copy my photos/documents to my stick which has given me some relief!! I suspect the virus may be still lurking, if I can get the internet going then I could download some Mcafee to banish the little b@stard once and for all I guess

OK, well see what McAfee does and see how you go.... i don't think the virus will be there unless it infected your USB or some of the my documents and photos.....
 
Remember, scanning the computer with one virus scanner might not help. It may miss some infections, I recommend you also get Spyware Terminator and Spybot S&D, and you can also scan the computer with Malwarebytes scanner (not the real AV, just the scanner) to clean your computer out more thoroughly. You can also try temporarily installing AVG and Avira AntiVir just to make sure, but since you can only have 1 AV installed at one given moment it may be a little troublesome doing that.
