Virus attack

Hello

I'm posting this thread due to being hit by the same "virus" 4 times over the past 5 weeks.
Last night as I was watching tv, I noticed a window pop up on my screen informing me that my system is infected. I was unable to launch any programs and the warnings just kept appearing one on top of the other.

The main warning window that appeared was "Anti virus live" and I was being encouraged to purchase it asap!
Some of the infected files were:
-searchprotocolhost.exe
-winipryse.exe

I'm not sure how this happened. I should note that where I'm currently living, I have wireless internet so I don't know if this is a factor or not.
It was suggested that I run Malwarebytes (which I am doing right now). My biggest concern is how to prevent this from happening again?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thank you.

After running malwarebytes please post a hijackthis log.

Hello, please download and post a log with HiJackThis.

  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

As far as keeping it off your system... Scan your system religiously with Malwarebytes, superantispyware and your own virus program(hopefully you have one installed). Knowing where and where not to surf will help matters tremendously. Don't use any file sharing programs and supposedly using a different browser than Internet Explorer will cut down on the amount of infections.

Hi John

Thanks for taking time to reply. I ran Malwarebytes and my system is currently clean. I'll Hijackthis and keep things under observation.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll be using them now.

Cheers.

Just because malwarebytes doesn't show anything doesn't mean you are clean from infections. They are hidden infections. Please post the hijacthis log so we can see if you need to do further clean up.
