Virus Attacks

I have had a bad run with virus attacks on my desktop computer. I have recently moved to a laptop which runs off the same router as my desktop PC. Will it be safe to purchase things on my laptop?

Hello,

Not necessarily, even though you have a fresh and clean pc, there are trojans/malware/spyware out there that attack and manipulate the router. Most if not all can cleaned by resetting the router. Check you router manual on how to reset it. I wouldn't make any online purchases until it is done so.
 
Ah, well I've done that just recently. I do it every month or so. By resetting, do you mean restoring to factory defaults?

Hmm, never heard of the such considering alot of routers use a linux/unix based subsystem, simply put... routers dont get viruses. If its a new pc then you should be fine, just recommend having yourself an antivirus installed(Avira and AVG are free, For paid Kaspersky and NOD32 are excellent) so you dont get future viruses and you should be fine;)

what do you mean purchase things? are you concerned about your cc information?

also please describe the symptoms you are getting on the desktop and i'll see if i can help you out :)

EDIT: i see from your other thread that you are trying out malwarebytes. i'd be willing to bet that it will take care of any problems you are having.

Sorry for any confusion. What I meant was there are trojans/virus'/spyware out there that can manipulate the router settings and directed to bogus sites. These of course will be installed on windows and will attempt to access your router model with default passwords (admin/admin).
What I meant by resetting is reset your router to get default settings back if suspect being hijacked.
