Virus Infected-Can I Just Replace the Hard Drive?

Just got the estimate to remove the virus and reload XP. Almost $200 and this is after I spent close to $200 just 10 months ago to do the same thing. Is it possible that I can just buy a new hard drive and have XP reloaded? Can I use Windows XP thats on my infected hard drive or do I have to buy it again? Thanks!

Just reformat your hard drive with windows xp, if you have used your installation twice already contact microsoft and they will ask you to send a picture or get confirmation somehow and they will send you a new serial code.

What if he has used it 3 times and it is expired? can he still do it then? And as for the question, if needed, replacing the HDD is easy.

you shouldnt need to replace the Hard Drive at all... at most you would need to purchase a new copy of Windows.

try putting your current windows CD in and reformatting...

How old is the PC?
how many times has it been formatted?
has your CD been used to format it?

There' no need to replace the hard disk. If using your Anti-Virus software doesn't work, then format your drive and reinstall XP.
