Hi, I'm new here and I was just wondering if you guys could help me with a virus:
The virus is that when I use FF or IE7, Google DOES NOT WORK. AT ALL. Neither do Facebook or Dictionary.com. What's more, I get the links to "anti-spyware" sites...

I have tried the following tricks with NO SUCCESS:
SmitfraudFix
ComboFix
SDFix
System Restore
Spybot S&D
Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal...

First of all, NEVER use any of those programs again unless a PRO advises you to do so. Some of those programs, if used incorrectly can cause more harm than help. First what you should do is download hijackthis at the link below and install. Then press "system scan only", and press "save log" when its done and copy the whole notepad results and paste them on here. Then we can give you the proper help.

AVG def wont take care of it but will prob help. First lets get rid of the infection and then worry about other stuff.

When I hit "save log," where is the log being sent??

It doesn't open a Notepad window or anything
Is there some place that I can look for it?

Thats the most junked up pc I think ive ever seen. It's too much for my brain to handle! You saved the wrong file too. Did you press "Do a system scan only"? When the scan is done push "Save log". It should pop-up and if not then go to programfiles/trendmicro/hijackthis/ and there should be a notepad file in there.

Well i think that is enough for us to work with - google updater get rid of because it is not needed! AVG has made it a virus on myspace and i have removed it. it is definatly not needed.

And i have to agree with g25racer it is a very junked up system!

almost every other site works (ESPN, YouTube, another forum I'm on, my e-mail). I don't know why but dictionary.com doesn't work either...I've tried to log on multiple times, but it hasn't worked...I would like to get this solved by 12:00 EST, otherwise I'm going to have my school's "tech lady" re-boot XP onto my laptop.
