Hey..I have a dell computer and it seems to be infected with spyware/malware.....Anyways...I have this CD that came with my Dell...it says "Operating System Already Installed On Your Computer" - Reinstallation CD
And then in small letters it says "The software is already installed on your computer. Only use this CD to reinstall the operating system on a Dell computer.

So my question is that When I stick it in it won't let me just reinstall over my current one...If I format my hard drive and delete windows completely will this CD let me reinstall windows on my PC? or is this sort of a Recovery CD only...also is there another way I can get around this? I tried small softwares to delete this spyware but it just comes back....Any help would be appreciated..

If you decide to format, yes it is fine. dells cd checks ur hardware for specific info, therefore your cd requires no cd key and will be automatically registered.

Ok now its wierd...if i turn on my computer it reboots every 20 seconds or so before fully starting up....someone told me to go to bootdisk.com and downloa da windows 98 boot disk to format my pc...but is there another way to format without a floppy or disk drive? thanks i just want to do a clean format and re install of xp

thanks you very much wa wa wee wa

The Windows XP CD has an option to partition/format during the setup process. It's been a while since I've reinstalled with a Dell CD, but I'm fairly certain they're the same as the Retail one I have.

The Dell Recovery CD is probably bootable, although you may need to change the boot order in the BIOS to boot from CD first. Once done, you should be able to insert the CD before the machine starts to load and boot directly from the CD.

Rarely are these sort of malware problems severe enough that a format is required, however. If you post a HijackThis log, I'd be happy to look it over and provide you with instructions on how to remove the infection.

If you wish to do so, please download the HijackThis installer from http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/threat_analytics/HJTInstall.exe.

Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

When the Notepad window opens choose Edit -> Select All to select the entire log, and copy and paste the log into a reply post.
Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.
