Virus Problem

Hi all, this is my first post here (hopefully the first of many, not on this thread though). My computer was infected with a virus recently (anti virus 2008 and perhaps more) I did not install this thinking it was anti virus software (I know better), though it installed itself. Since then my desktop background has changed into one saying that i have a virus (a fake alert basically). Since then every time I switch it on, it starts normally until it starts to load the desktop, it shows my desktop with a black background (it's not normally black) with the fake alert after this my computer restarts again and this is continous never reaching desktop. I have a HP but that F10 trick doesn't work, I don't have a boot CD or floppy dick (my computer is quite old), and I can't boot using the windows XP CD (I only have a copy, not original). I can't do any virus scans because I can't go into desktop, safe mode doesn't...In fact none of the advanced options work and if i select debugging mode the computer just freezes, if anyone can help (other than saying take it into repairs) I would be most greatful. Thank you.

First of all, pls do this

If after that you are still infected, please post a Hijackthis log. To post a Hijackthis log, please do the following:
Click Here to download HJTsetup.exe


* Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
* Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
* By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
* Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
* Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
* Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
* At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
* Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
* Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
* Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
* DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.


We will look at your log as soon as we see it, and give you further instructions on how to fix your computer. Most of the time it will involve downloading more programs that will either give us logs to locate the malware or delete those malware.

Once you have posted a HJT Thread DO NOT make any changes to your PC unless the advisor helping you has instructed you to do so!
 
Thanks for the advise guys, but like I said I'd love to use an anti-virus but...

I've also tried other techniques to reach desktop...

So, you see I can't go into desktop, so I can't do anything apart from watching it restart prematurely over and over again...
 
Hello everyone

Well 24 gram are you able to log into with a different user, and will it do the same thing. If you don't have another user account, try the default administrator, if doesn't help, are you able to boot from CD, if so i recommend you to use the Ultimate boot CD for win, it will boot into a window environment , it has some virus tools you can use, but best of all you can use the internet to get the required tools you need.:cool:
 
24 grams, do what i suggested above and we can help you fix your problem, this is the easiest way of detecting what the virus is and what actions need to be taken to get rid of the virus, some programs don't totally get rid of the virus, so pls do the hijackthis and then we can go on from there.

I have the "anti virus xp 2008" and for the last time I CANNOT GET INTO MY DESKTOP! Not even using another log and using the administrator. When my computer was working I used all the software you just mentioed (includuing Hjackthis), YES it got rid of a few things, BUT now MY COMPUTER WON'T EVEN BOOT! So I cannot do what YOU SAID ABOVE! This Virus is PREVENTING ME FROM GOING TO MY DESKTOP guess why.... SO I CAN'T GET RID OF IT!
 
oh, right to get rid of that then.

google search and download Malware Bytes Anti Malware, and run it and post the log.

and then do the hijackthis log.

So 24grams, you did boot from a CD with the ultimate boot cd for win. if not get it and then you will be able to boot and have a windows environment, then you will be able to download malwarebytes to get rid of the infection:cool:

writing in all caps will certainly help get rid of your virus
