Virus question!

Hmm.. yesterday i double clicked a FOLDER in my usb and i was suprised with an error message.

At the same time, mcafee catched about 5 trojans -_-! (Think it was an autorun)
I simply quarantined them and deleted. Plus i completely formatted my usb.

Thing i would like to know is whether my computer is safe. I literally double clicked a virus first before mcafee could do anything (although mcafee cathced the viruses after double clicking).

Very interesting thing to point out is that Mcafee could not catch the viruses inside my usb. I scanned my usb about 3 times before i clicked that folder.
hmm sigh...

After i removed all the viruses i scanned my comp completley but found nothing.

Do you guys think that my computer has no problem? Did i activate the viruses...?

I don't really trust McAfee... is it fully updated? I would recommend trying an online scanner such as TrendMicro Housecall for a second opinion... also, you should scan w/ Malwarebyte's Antimalware, and then run HijackThis! and post your log here.

What I want to know is how did you end up w/ 5 trojans on your USB drive to begin with? What did you put on there and from where? :confused: And why would you open the folder if you suspected it was infected? What did you need from/expect to be in there?

Ye.. i kinda knew that the virus would be there but there was no choice
since i had to use my usb..
But McAfee did not say anything so i carried on.
The usb i was using was my iPod.
I just clicked folder called Notes and sigh..
anyway thanks for your help.
 
That still doesn't explain how the viruses got there to begin with... I'm going to assume pr0n from P2P... :rolleyes:
 
Mcafee probably was catching the trojans that started from the autorun file. And hopefully you are running other malware protection than just Mcafee. You should be running Malwarebytes Antimalware and/or Superantispyware in conjunction with your antivirus program. An antivirus program alone won't catch most of todays infections.

You can download flash disinfector and run it with your usb flash drive attached to the system. It will create an autorun file that will stop any infections from getting on it.

  • Please download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear.
    Note: Some security programs will flag Flash_Disinfector as being some sort of malware, you can safely ignore these warnings
  • The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives including your mobile phone. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.
  • Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.
  • Reboot your computer when done.
Note: Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you ran it. Don't delete this folder. It will help protect your drives from future infection.
