The 64bit version of XP is supposed to have 32bit compatibility just like the 32bit version has backward to 16bit support in some cases. XP Pro includes MS Dos files for support when connecting to 16bit OSed networks. You can try several freewares in general to see if the actual 32bit support is there along with a few freeware programs like AVG 7.5 free antivirus and the formerly named Ewido now known as AVG Anti-Spyware Remover both found free at http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#avg-anti-spyware-free

Another freeware being evaluated lately includes a personal firewall. Spyware Terminator is free at http://www.spywareterminator.com/ Note that the term virus isn't always accurate if instead there are trojans and trojan downloaders hidden on the system there.

But one thing you may want to review covers these areas. http://www.computerforum.com/64161-essential-read.html along with providing some links that could be helpful there as well as on 32bit versions. Note that some items like the MS AntiSpyware link is currenly unavailable while links for AVG, Avast, AnVir, Spybot S&D, and a few others are still good.

Primarily intended for 32bit OSs House Call is an online virus scanner that requires you first install Trend Micro's PC-cillin. That 30day trial version does include a personal firewall along with virus/malware/spyware/adware removers. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ This is also referred to among the links in the sticky there. The last is Symantec's(Norton's creator) own online security and virus scanner seen at http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/...d=22&pkj=NCGSCKMRKRFPECDMEYI&setjsax=1&bhcp=1

Thanks. I know windows is supposed to be able to run 32 bit programs, and most things work ok, but some things, like virus software, O&O defrag, and my brothers Hebrew Language program, dont work. Im not sure why, but anyway...thanks for your help, any more programs are welcome.

This is one reason why most stay with the 32bit versions of Windows. The full transition to 64bit OSs will some time yet while the market is flooded with softwares and games designed for the 32bit versions. Sometimes the support sites for these programs offer something in their knowledge base about tweaks to get their program running on the 64bit version but not often. :(

Another thing to mention here is that most malwares are written for 32bit. while some new ones won't the 64bit OSs out entirely. This is due mainly to businesses that would more likely go that route.
