Virus, spam, neutered antivirus software...?

Been having issues for several months. I used to use Trend Micro Antivirus, but it suddenly stopped finding anything. I didn't change any settings on either that program or my PC, and it used to find little things (spyware cookies and such, with the occasional trojan or worm), but one day decided there was never anything on my PC. Customer service had me send them a file and said there was no virus, but my PC was slowing down and having minor issues like that. The same thing had happened to Spybot at the same time. TM did the same thing even after I uninstalled Spybot.

So I reinstalled Spybot and tried McAffe recently, and it started doing the same thing after only a couple weeks. I let the trial end and have been relying on Spybot alone, just to see what happens. It still works.

However, I keep getting a webpage come up at random (getting it a couple times daily now), that I think I first saw around the same time TM stopped working. I'll include a screen shot of it. An acqaintence recommended Malwarebytes, which said nothing was on my PC. So I'm wondering what the hell is going on. I keep getting this window pop up, and the only program that finds anything only finds minor issues and doesn't stop this window coming up. I'm not convinced this will last forever anyway as it seems to have done something to my antivirus software to make it not work; including Spybot earlier last year. Anyone know what's going on or what to do about it? It looks to me like I don't have any security for my PC.

BTW, the it did have my IP address.

Thanks.

Please post a hijackthis log.

  • Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
  • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
  • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
  • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
  • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
  • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  • Click Save to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Ok. That's what TM had me send before. They told me there was no problem.

It's not letting me upload the file and I have to go. Mind telling me what part you need and I can post it right here? Or I'll just fiddle with it after I get back.

I need the whole log. Have you been told to run Combofix at all? Don't upload it, just copy and paste the file in a reply.

Never even heard of Combofix.

Download and Run ComboFix
If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

In your next reply please post:
  • The ComboFix log
  • A fresh HiJackThis log
  • An update on how your computer is running

Here's the Combofix log I got a few hours ago:

Haven't run the PC much today, but I haven't had any weird crap happen so far.

I really appreciate the help BTW, thank you.

I don't see anything but let's try running an online virus scan. Do on online virus scan using Kaspersky scanner.

http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partner/default/pages/default/check.html?n=1261403967312

Since you are running vista you must right click and choose to run as administrator. Before scanning, the program will download updated definitions, please allow it to do so.

To save the scan report:

In the left part of the Kaspersky Online Scanner 7.0 window, click Scan Report to open the Scan Report section.
Click the Save Report As button, and in the Browse dialog box, type a name for the scan report file that you want to create and select its type (Text file). Click OK to save the file.

Then copy and paste that file back here.

Thanks.

Same thing happened to me also. John will take care of ya. :good:

Is there another way to run it as administrator? The right clicking thing doesn't seem to be working and it keeps telling me to restart the browser and run it as administrator.

Note that to run Kaspersky Online Scanner 7.0 in Microsoft Windows Vista:

You need to start the Web browser using the Run as Administrator command.

Meaning right click on IE icon and click on run as administrator.

That's what I was doing. I tried it with Explorer and Firefox. Doesn't matter though, it apparenly is trying to completely destroy my PC. It's sitting at a repair shop with a $100 work order. I really appreciate the help though. I'm no PC expert, but I'll reccomend to anyone else that if you see this window on your own system, just take it to the shop.
