well thats at least what i believe is happening. On my other computer (win XP) there are three users and it happens the same for all of them, when you log in it takes a really long time to log in, and the sound like you logging in happens, but it stays on the logging in screen for a long time after. But finally when the desktop comes up, the only thing that comes up is the wallpaper. and the only way i can run programs on it is to do crtl+alt+del and then do new task. so i figure its a virus. but.... so i have basically two questions....

1) how can i open a documents "browser" thing, through the "new task" in the task manager? (just so i can try to go through my files and find anything suspiscious...)

2) does anyone have any ideas on my problem?

PS: when i do newtask and i browse through all my files in the "browse" window, if i go to "desktop" the items are still there that were icons on the desktop, so its like the startbar and the icons are invisible basically...

PS....2: if i run adaware and then restart the computer the first user you click on the desktop will come up but if you log out and try another user or the same user again, the problem occurs....just a little heads up...

try and remove your temporary internet files and if you have a spyware program run that you could have some spyware on your system that is causeing you this problem.
also it a goos idea to run "scandisk" on your system and let your pc check for missplaced or corrupted files and check for errors that could be a problem.

also check your "msconfig" and see how or what programs you have setup to run at startup you could have a program that is running a system scan for example "fix-it utility" and looks for problems.

also one more thing to think about you have other users on this system and a harddrive can only handle so much maybe you guys need to check thoes video files and mp3 files on your drive and clean that harddrive up a little. lol

lol thanks man i'll try that... and about our harddrive....errrrr... it's only only a 32 gig hard drive, but the other two users, besides me, our my parents... we only have 14 gigs of the hard drive, which is barely half, used, and its like i've used 13.7 gigs and my parents .3 of a gig...so i wouldn't be concerned about a hard drive problem, i mean, the one that you said about...

type in (in net task) (this should work)

explorer.exe (shoud bring taskbar, and desktop icons)
iexplorer.exe (Internet explorer)
type in explorer.exe another time and should bring up windows explorer
