hi i have vista 32bit on a seperate hdd and i was wondering whether
it would be worth trying vista 64 bit or if i wouldnt see any diffrence

well if you got a compatible 64 bit system i would get vista 64 i should think its faster, but if you havnt you woudnt be able to run vista 64

I tried Vista 64bit on my previous Athlon 64, and I really didn't see anything to be overwhelmed about. I mean, I thought it ran pretty poorly on the system...

Vista 64Bit is only usable on 64Bit processors. If you do have one, there will not be any difference in terms of features. There also wont be a noticable difference in terms of speed either, unless you're running very complex programs.

Is all software that is XP compatible also Vista compatible?
No, however alot of things are. Mostly the new programs that were created for Windows XP will run on Vista, however its mostly the older programs that wont work. As for games, alot of Windows XP games will work, however even some newer games such as Oblivion dont work.

For those of you who seem to have sluggish poor performance, that usually comes from one of two things, 1. Having a non WDDM display card, and 2. Having any piece of hardware or software which has incompatibilities. The performance measurer will tell you if you have software or drivers which are slowing down your system, and most systems will have at least a few. However, the point of Vista right now is not to be flawless and be for main usage. It's a beta OS to deploy their code and test it in different environments. Many corporations, businesses, and other facilities will use this code simply to test how it will be when the go to upgrade. It's also used for software and hardware vendors to deploy new compatibile drivers, and to get ready for It's not meant to use for a main OS or for convienient usage right now. More software (possibly not all) will eventually get more compatible along with hardware and the final launch will be what a release OS is. I don't know why people are getting so nervous, all beta OSes are like this.
