Vista activating problem

Originally i had Vista on my main hard drive but decided i wanted XP aswell so I could dual-boot. I formatted the drive and put XP onto it instead and bought another hard drive for Vista. It has been working for a couple of months (I don't really use Vista much mainly XP for my work) However I boot up into Vista tonight and it says it hasn't been activated, i tried to do so online and it said that my key had already been used (I assume this is from before when i had Vista as my main operating system)

Now I get a black screen saying it is not genuine and that i must activate it. How do I go about resolving this issue? Contact Microsoft?

Yep, and tell them of your problem. They should help like no1 else could...unless, of course you want to run deactivated version...which is illegal and it's called piracy, and that's why u can't use it.

When first installing with a valid copy of Vista the activation process is automatic once you connect online. That option is already checked off by default. Apparently you never set up the ISP connection there and now will have to reinstall Vista again and connect online to MS.

After a certain amount of time calling by phone may be too late if you are not able to see the installation number the installer creates. It's far easier now to simply reinstall and allow the automatic option to work right away once connected online.
